Expert Toolmaking Services for Plastic Extrusions

Nenplas’ bespoke plastic extrusion tooling is designed and manufactured by our in-house teams in a state of the art machining facility. Our specialist toolmakers focus on delivering high-quality custom components that fit your exact requirements at competitive prices and lead times.

Our Plastic Extrusion Tooling Process

As the first step of our plastic extrusion tooling process, we take the time to understand your exact requirements as well as possible so as to define the specifications aligned with the extrusion profile you’re looking to have manufactured. We consider all relevant tolerances, materials and production requirements and work closely alongside our extrusion and design teams during this step.

Components are then machined internally with CNC milling, wire erosion and turning techniques used as required. All tooling is manufactured entirely in-house. The components are then assembled by our experienced team with all relevant checks carried out to ensure accuracy and quality of fit.

In-house manufacturing allows components to be maintained as required and/or amended based on your feedback.

Investing for the Future

Precision Toolmaking With Advanced In-House Equipment

Nenplas has made significant investments in our large, newly-built tool room to ensure it is a world class facility that allows us to produce exceptional PVC extrusion profiles.

We are continually investing in the latest machining equipment and currently have 6 CNC milling machines, 4 Fanuc CNC wire eroders, 3 lathes and a CNC spark drill in use supported by additional specialist equipment. These in-house machining capabilities allow us to shorten lead times as well as manufacture tools with high levels of accuracy and consistency.

We pride ourselves on supplying high quality plastic extrusion tools that have been designed, manufactured and developed completely in house. A team largely built and trained from within continues to grow and develop its knowledge to produce quality extrusion dies, punching equipment and other pieces of engineering required to support reliable production outcomes for our customers.

Why In-House Matters

Benefits of In-House Plastic Extrusion Tooling

The ability to offer in-house tooling services for plastic extrusions means we don’t rely on third-party machining specialists, leading to faster turnaround times from tooling design to manufacture. It also means we’re able to react quickly to any project changes that may come up or urgent requirements.

All profile-forming systems being manufactured entirely under one roof enables us to have high levels of control over tolerances and machining quality and therefore maintain consistent tooling standards across repeat projects. What’s more, tools can be adjusted and/or maintained in-house with ongoing support throughout the tool’s service life.

For you, all of this means reduced costs, fewer delays and improved value across repeat orders and long-term supply.

    Plastic Extrusion Tooling FAQs

Plastic extrusion tooling manufacture is the process of producing precision dies and calibration tools later used to shape molten plastic into a continuous extrusion profile. It is considered the ‘heart’ of the extrusion process since it directly dictates the shape, dimensions and specifications of the final profile as well as its surface finish and overall quality.

Nenplas manufactures our own machined components on-site, removing the need for relying on third party toolmakers and allowing us better control over quality and timelines and any adjustments that may be needed.

In addition, we have made significant investments in our equipment to make sure we’re able to provide customers with the highest quality extrusion tooling in-house and therefore produce the best possible extrusion profiles tailored to your requirements.

Having both profile forming components and the extrusions themselves manufactured under one roof means tools are produced with real manufacturing conditions in mind and with constant feedback from our extrusions team.

Our tooling room is fitted with the latest equipment in the industry including 6 CNC milling machines, 4 Fanuc CNC wire eroders, 3 lathes and a CNC spark drill alongside additional specialised equipment. This equipment allows us to manufacture high precision profile forming surfaces designed to produce plastic extrusions fully aligned with your required specifications while minimising revisions and lead times.

We’re able to produce a wide range of extrusions tools in-house, including:

    • Extrusion dies
    • Calibration tooling
    • Punching and post-processing tooling
    • Associated extrusion tooling components

If there’s a specific type of tooling you’re looking to have manufactured and/or have any questions about the process, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our team and they’ll be happy to help.

CNC machining offers superior control over dimensional specifications and geometry and is great at achieving tight tolerances. It is designed to produce the same result repeatedly and consistently whether when it comes to components within the tool itself, in case of component replacement during its lifetime or across additional replacement tools.

At Nenplas, we have a wide range of CNC equipment we use to ensure extrusions tools perform reliably during production, reducing variation and the potential for rework.
